NGO FORUM ON ADB is looking for suitable candidates for POLICY COORDINATOR and COMMUNICATION COORDINATOR in the Secretariat based in the Philippines for immediate hiring.

Post I: POLICY COORDINATOR

Forum Secretariat is looking for a POLICY COORDINATOR who will lead the Forum’s Policy campaign and advocacy.

Job description
The Policy Coordinator is expected to coordinate among members and partners on various ADB Policies.
Specifically, the Coordinator is expected to:

Coordinate FORUM’s Policy campaigns
Coordinate and extend strategic support to project-level campaigns to network members

Responsibilities:

Coordinate and initiate Policy reviews and its implementation among members.
Play a catalyst and supporting role in encouraging network members to engage proactively and strategically on ADB monitoring in the country
Implement other tasks as may be directed by the Forum's Executive Director.

Qualifications:

Required:
Have knowledge and experience of working on International Financial Institutions, , especially ADB
Broad understanding of international development issues especially in Asia
Familiarity with various sectoral policies campaign and advocacy in networks
Preferred:
Familiarity with issues related to Asian Development Bank
Background in major developmental issues
2-3 years of experience working with NGO networks or social movements
Familiarity with environment, displacement, indigenous people and developmental issues in Asia
Woman candidates are highly encouraged to apply

The position will be based in Forum’s Secretariat in Philippines.

Salary: Competitive among CSOs in the region.

The Communication Coordinator is expected to keep momentum of the network by information sharing and managing Forum website.
Specifically, the Coordinator is expected to:

Share information and manage Forum list serves
Managing Forum’s website, hosting campaign and advocacy related information in the website
Coordinate and extend information to project-level campaigns to network members

Responsibilities:

Coordinate sharing of information among members.
Managing website including dissemination of information to media and others
Implement other tasks as may be directed by the Forum's Executive Director.

Qualifications:

Required:
Have knowledge and experience of information campaign on developmental issues especially related to International Financial Institution
Technical knowledge of website management
Preferred:
2-3 years of experience working with NGO networks or social movements
Woman candidates are highly encouraged to apply

The position will be based in Forum’s Secretariat in Philippines.

The EDSA Revolution has freed the Philippines from the clutches of corrupt authoritarian rule. The world was in awe with what it saw transpired from the ground: all classes converged in public spaces to topple what they deemed to be a common enemy of democracy and progress. However,...

EDSA Revolution remains only indicative of what has been and what ought to be. Sadly,the people's victory is but a mongrel produced by a cross of a stupid politicians, misshapen public culture and historical amnesia.

What is there to do? Plenty, actually.

But I guess we don't need another revolution. As a student of international relations (and realist at that!), I should be focusing on rooting out the systemic problems in cases at hand. But as I see it, the only thing Filipinos haven't tried in order to effect change is the attempt to transform one's self.

The revolution in one's self might just be needed. It doesn't take a genius, or riches, or education to do this. I believe humans are endowed with a universal knowledge of basic right and wrong. And if we start to adhere to this standard of mere righteousness, then genuine change can inch its way to our country.

Applicants must meet one of the following language requirements.
A. Applicants who have obtained a 3rd level(Undergraduate) / 4th level(Transfer and Graduate) certificate or above in Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK).
B. Applicants who have one of the following scores for the specific English proficiency test: a minimum of 550 in the TOEFL PBT; a minimum of 210 in the TOEFL CBT; a minimum of 80 in the TOEFL IBT; a minimum of 550 in the TEPS, a minimum 5.5 level in the IELTS, a minimum of 685 in the TOEIC.
C. Applicants who have obtained a high school diploma or a degree from Korean or English speaking institutions.
D. Applicants who have been recognized by Ewha Womans University as possessing sufficient proficiency in Korean or English language
Those who have a 3rd level in TOPIK are required to satisfy the 4th level or above language proficiency conditions in Ewha Language Center before taking regular courses.

Guideline for 2012 KGSP Graduate Application

"Korean Government invites 322 international students from 100 countries who wish to pursue a master's or doctoral degree in Korea. To apply for this program, you should contact one of the 1st Selection Institutions (90 Overseas Korean Embassies or 51 Domestic Universities) and submit the application no later than the mid-March. Face and Fingerprint Scan for Foreigners

Fingerprints and facial recognition will now be required for all inbound foreign visitors to Korea starting January 2012. This process was first required in July for longer-term visitors.

Except for people exempt from mandatory submission of such information by law (e.g. foreign government officials, international organization representatives, etc.), any foreign visitor aged 17 or older will be obligated to go through a fingerprint and facial recognition registration process at immigration at all ports and airports across Korea.

If only we could have something like this in the Philippines, not only for foreigners but more so for the citizens. Thing is, the public trust in the government is not far from rock-bottom and a national/foreign ID can easily be misconstrued as a political weapon against an opposition, individual or group. I'm thinking, however, if the process of safeguarding and recalling private information being assigned to a public-private entity would make any significant difference in terms of delimiting information access only on the basis of highly defined criteria and substantiated security concern.

Full-time Nanny

Happy new year everyone!
I'm posting this entry for anyone who is interested in nannying a one-year old baby boy in Bucheon City, South Korea (5-minute walk from Yeokgok Station). The baby's mom is a full-time professor and is in need of a stay-in nanny from 8am to 7pm. The mom was my professor and friend. She can speak excellent English and is a very generous and God-fearing woman. I expect no less from the nanny. She specifically wants a Filipino nanny as she trusts the nature and conscience of Filipinos.
